Headed into Koya today to find some final bits for the shoot, unfortunately the phantom power on my recorder was introducing lots of noise onto the lav mics so we were out to hunt down some external phantom power.
We ended up in Babylon a film rental/film studio in Koya, where we will be getting the crane rig from. Whilst there we also sourced huge amounts of power cables for the rest of the lighting, custom made for us by a really helpful guy there, who must have stayed up all night to get it finished for us.
We also picked up a generator, the power in Kurdistan is generally not to be relied upon and hopefully this will also see us through the mountain stages.
In the evening we chatted to one of the KDPI gaurds (Peshmerga) who was kind enough to show us his AK-47 and teach us the Kurdish names for each part.
Today we went to meet one of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran’s (KDPI) leaders to have tea and gain his blessing to film in the surrounding towns and camps. The guy was really lovely and told us we had his backing as the film tells the real story of Iran’s people and their daily life under the current regime.
We then headed over to Tishk TV, an Asian channel founded in Paris that has a sister station in Kurdistan. We’ll be heading back there soon to use their green screen for a news report scene.
